Shoreline Restoration & Erosion Control

Protecting Shorelines With Natural, Site-Specific Solutions

Healthy shorelines play an important role in protecting water quality, preventing erosion, supporting wildlife habitat, and maintaining the natural beauty of lakes and waterways. At Tru Habitats, we provide professional shoreline restoration and erosion control services throughout Central Minnesota, using solutions tailored to each property’s unique conditions.

No two shorelines are alike. Soil, slope, vegetation, water levels, drainage, and wave action all influence restoration. We evaluate these conditions to develop a site-specific shoreline restoration plan that promotes long-term stability and healthy vegetation while meeting applicable county and state permitting requirements and regulations.

Native Shoreline Planting & Restoration

When site conditions allow, Tru Habitats emphasizes deep-rooted native shoreline plants, emergent vegetation, native grasses, sedges, and wet prairie species to create a native shoreline buffer between maintained turf and the water. These plantings help stabilize soil and restore a healthier transition between land and water.

Native vegetation develops extensive root systems that help hold soil in place, reduce runoff, filter sediment and nutrients before they reach the water, and provide valuable habitat for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. Once established, native shoreline plantings can provide a beautiful, lower-maintenance alternative to highly manicured lakefront landscapes.

Shoreline Erosion Control & Stabilization

Newly restored shorelines often need additional protection while native vegetation becomes established. Depending on site conditions, we may incorporate temporary erosion control materials, erosion control matting, coir logs, and other soil stabilization techniques to reduce soil loss and protect developing plants.

Properties exposed to stronger wave action or more significant erosion may require a hybrid approach that combines native vegetation with more permanent erosion control materials. By addressing both vegetation and soil stability, we can help create a shoreline that is better equipped to withstand changing water and weather conditions.
